An Overview of Yoga

During the ancient times in India, the great Rishis tried to spread the culture of Yoga through out the world. There was a great aim behind their attempt. The Rishis earnestly wanted each and every human being to benefit from Yoga and all things related to Yoga.

Their great aim was to enable each and every person achieve perfect health. Their concept of perfect health was the physical, mental, emotional and intellectual well-being of the people. To attain this perfect health, they included proper exercise, proportionate rest, right mode of breathing, healthy, natural and nutritious food, positive and philosophical thinking and scientific meditation in their great scheme of Yoga.

By practicing Yoga postures, a person can properly exercise his body, thereby making himself healthy and active. Proportionate rest should be taken. The practice of different types of Pramayana (breathing techniques) enables one to breathe properly. Consuming fresh, natural and nutritious food is a must for mental as well as physical health. In continuation to this, the practice of different types of meditation techniques, gives the person mental peace and helps in proportional relaxation and rest. Right, positive and philosophical thinking enables a person to be mentally sound, good, pure and active.

A person can be relieved from all sorts of mental tensions, frustrations, worries, anxieties, fear and other illnesses by practicing different meditation techniques. It is a proven scientific fact that the more a person becomes relaxed, the happier he becomes.

There is no doubt that a person who is relaxed, satisfied and happy would be leading a value-based life. Kindness, sympathy, tolerance, liberal-mindedness, brotherly love, a co-operative spirit and other virtues will be always indicated in his behavior. Moreover, concentration, memory power, intelligence, perseverance and will power will also be shown by such a person. A citizen having perfect health and a pleasing personality would be a noble contribution of Yoga to a nation's society.
