He was born in Kaipalli
Illam in 655 A.D. at Kaladi (Ernakulam district in
Kerala). He went to Narmada and became a disciple of
Govindachariya.
Founded Advaita Philosophy, also known as 'monism'.
Established 4 mutts in 4 parts of India to propagate
his philosophy of Advaita - Sarada
Mutt in Sringeri (South), Godavari Mutt in Puri (
East), Sarada Mutt in Dwaraka. (West) and Jothir
Mutt in Badarinath (North). He also organized
groups to popularize his philosophy.
Some of his works are Sivananda Lahari, Soundarya Lahari and
Viveka Chooda Mani.
