Who's who in Philosophy

Bhavadasan	The first philosopher of Kerala. He lived in the 2nd century A.D. He wrote a commentary on the Sutras of Jamini.
Prabhakar Chakiyar	Lived in the 7th century A.D. and belonged to Sukapuram. His writings on Jamini are known as Vivaranam and Nibandhanam. He established six mutts to teach his philosophy known as '*poorva meemansa*'.
Sankara Charaya	He was born in Kaipalli Illam in 655 A.D. at Kaladi (Ernakulam district in Kerala). He went to Narmada and became a disciple of Govindachariya. Founded Advaita Philosophy, also known as 'monism'. Established 4 mutts in 4 parts of India to propagate his philosophy of Advaita - Sarada Mutt in Sringeri (South), Godavari Mutt in Puri ( East), Sarada Mutt in Dwaraka. (West) and Jothir Mutt in Badarinath (North). He also organized groups to popularize his philosophy. Some of his works are Sivananda Lahari, Soundarya Lahari and Viveka Chooda Mani. Popular sayings: "Aham Brahmasmi" (I am the Brahma) "Tathwa masi" (You are that) "Brahmam satyam, Jagat Mithya" (Brahma is real and the world is unreal or Illusion).
Kulashekara Alwar	Was a bhakti poet. He wrote ‘Mukunda Mala’.
Melpathur Narayan Bhataliri	Born in Tirunavaya (1650 -1750 A.D.). Wrote ‘Manameyodayam on Menamsa’.
Eshana Sivaguru	12th century philosopher. Wrote ‘Sidhantha Sara Padhadhi’.
Chennas Narayanan Namboodiri	Wrote ‘Tantra Samuchyam’.
Niranam poets	Wrote 'Guru Geetham'.
Thunchath Ezhuthachan	Wrote ‘Harinama Keerthanam’ based on Bhakti philosophy.
Poonthanam	Wrote ‘Vedantha Keerthanam’.
Chatambi Swamikal	(1854- 1924) wrote ‘Advaita Chinthapadhathi’.
Sree Narayan Guru	Wrote ‘Atmapadesa Sathakam’ and ‘Darsana Mala’.

Modern Philosophers

Bhikshu Darma Skandan	Wrote on the Philosophy of Buddha.
Vakkam Abdul Qadir Moulavi	Wrote on Islamic philosophy.
K. Damodaran	Wrote on Marxian philosophy
Sukumar Azikode	Wrote on Gandhian philosophy.

Nataraja Guru, Chinmayanandan and Nitya Chaitanya Yathi were also some modern philosophers in the 19th century.
