►The
quizzer of Kerala
He looks like any other guy you usually
meet on college campuses. But behind those twinkling brown eyes
lies a mind like a steel trap! This is
Lloyd Colopilly, post graduate
student and the best quizzer in the state. This young man has
represented his college at inter-collegiate and national level
quiz competitions. And he’s chalked up quite a few convincing
wins as well! Some of his laurels include:
1st place at the National Inter-University Festival
2002, at Amritsar, Punjab.
1st place at International Youth Festival organised
by Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Semi finalist of India Quiz ’97 conducted by Siddharth Basu.
Born
on the 13th of February, 1981, 21-year-old Lloyd is
now a student of Maharaja’s college, Ernakulam where he is
studying for a Master’s degree in History. He speaks 3 languages
– English, Malayalam and Hindi – and is computer savvy too, with
a working knowledge of Unix, Sybase and HTML. He loves reading
(but of course!), photography, listening to music and watching
TV.
For
all his considerable talent, Lloyd is a very modest person; he
sees himself as someone whom God has blessed abundantly and is
always willing to use his skills for the community. His greatest
asset is his mental strength. He is a born leader with the
ability to inspire others and he performs well under pressure
(as is apparent from his success in the quizzing arena.) He
admits he does have weaknesses, but he always strives to turn
these into strengths.

...That's
him.....just forgot to smile!!!

►What
are his plans for the future?
“Well I plan to do
an MBA from a reputed institute. Someday, I hope to be part of a
big corporation. After working with them for a couple of years,
I plan to set up my own enterprise with my own innovative and
revolutionary ideas.” Well, so much for sensible, logical
planning.
►What
about his dreams?
Ah! His eyes light up, he
grins and begins to talk about his desire to explore the diverse
cultures, geographical wonders and historical landmarks of this
beautiful world. “It seems a bit crazy, but I’ve always wanted
to explore India on a motorbike,” he says. “I’ve always dreamt
of climbing Mount Everest…and flying a fighter jet. I might try
my hand at politics too. But I DON’T want to be like the current
politicians whose first priority is to fill their pockets. They
hardly give a second thought to the welfare of the people.”
►What
does he think of Kerala?
“I
think it’s a wonderful place. It has so much natural beauty and
is so much better off than other parts of India. I’m glad I was
born here,” he says.
►And
what is his objective in life?
“To
be as complete an individual as I can be,” he states. Well, this
dynamic youngster should have no problems there.
