Arundathi Roy

Arundathi Roy

"The God of small Things"- the bestselling novel by Arundhati Roy - certainly played a role in bringing international attention to Kerala. The book tells the story of twins Rahel and Estha, who grew up amidst  the backwaters of Gods Own Country where the plains echoed with music. But the story of Rahel and Estha is a bitter one......one that tells us about life in God's Own Country since India gained its independence - a society trying to cling on to its traditions while being a part of The Global World.

Kamala Das has always been daring and forthright. She has criticised the tradition-bound, conservative society which, of course, was always harsh on her unconventional life style. One thing is sure: She was far ahead of many other Indian writers in her ideas, unconcerned about what others thought of her
