Hey there folks ! Let me introduce you to the President of our country Shri Kocheril Raman Narayanan, or K R Narayanan in short. Introducing you to the President is exciting as it is, but the fact that our President is a Malayali makes its all the more exciting. I haven't been lucky enough to meet him, but he sure has an impressive profile which makes me wish I could meet him!

Shri K R Narayanan - The President of India

 

Shri K R Narayanan assumed office as President of India on July 25, 1997. According to the Constitution of India, to be eligible for the post of President of India a person has to be (1) a citizen of India (2) should have completed the age of 35 years and (3) be qualified for election as a member of the House of the People. Shri K R Narayanan was born on October 27, 1920 in the village of Uzhavoor in Kottayam district, Kerala making him 77 years 'young' when he assumed office as President!

 

Shri Narayanan obtained an M.A degree in English Literature from the University of Travancore, He was ranked  first in the University. Later, he obtained B.Sc (Economics) degree from the London School of Economics with First Class Honours specializing in Political Science. Prior to becoming President Shri K R Narayan held a variety of posts with both the Government and Non Government Organisations. He sure had a colourful professional career, the posts held ranging from 'Lecturer' to 'Indian Foreign Service' to 'Ambassador' to the US, Thailand, Turkey, China and of course as Vice-President  of India and ex-officio Chairman, Rajya Sabha from 21.8.1992 to July, 1997.

 

Shri Narayanan is known to be a patron of various social, cultural and sports organisations. Moreover he has a wide variety of interests such as political thought and international affairs, education; philosophy of science and social applications of science and technology, poetry, literature and the fine arts; Folk and Classical Music and walking.

 

Shri Narayanan is married to Smt Usha Narayanan and they have two daughters Chitra and Amrita. Well, there you go ..hope you enjoyed meeting our President !
