Kollam district, popularly known as Quilon, is situated
just north of Thiruvananthapuram. During ancient times,
Kollam was a renowned international trade center,
frequented by Phoenicians, Persians, Romans, Arabs and
Chinese. Famous travelers like Marco Polo and Ibn Batuta
have acclaimed the historical importance of Kollam.
Today, Kollam is one of the major industrial and
commercial centers of Kerala - and the southern gateway
to the famous backwaters of Kerala! |
