The Community

The community

Established on November 3rd 1957, by Zechariahs mar Athanios, bishop of Thiruvalla, as an autonomous monastrel of eparchial rank of the syro malankara church, kurushumala ashramam grew as a community of spiritual seekers. Their quest is pursued in prayer and work. Yet it is meant to lead the seeker to a higher consciousness, the realization of our communion with our lord as attested in Psalms  abide in me as I abide in you; we have to be in communion with the lord as well as within ourselves, as the early experience of the church teaches us "Beloved if god so loved us, we ought also to love one another, if we love one another , god abides in us and his love is perfect in us"But the fundamental constituents of our spiritual quest remain the basic virtues of renunciation and humility, of mutual obedience and acceptance of others.

The community

In practice we have to free ourselves from all complexes of superiority or inferiority based on psychological inhibitions or urges and also social bars. we need a deep sense of being life partners. further we must develop a consciousness  of belonging to the human family , with a sense of universal communion, as the foundation of the right attitude to human relationships. Only then can one be led in an inner process of realization that opens the door of the heart. Our spiritual quest harmonizes meditation and prayer with work for the common good and prayer with work for the common good and service of the others. The framework their prayer is that of the services of others.

The community

The frame work of our prayer is that of the prayer of the church, the celebration of the liturgy of the hours and of the Eucharist, with their abundant reading of the holy scriptures, their poetic hymns, and solemn Eucharistic prayer, which actuate in us the mysteries of the divine dispensation: creation, the fall, and Christ works of salivation. Yet such a celebration fosters the expected growth only when it is rooted in a personal sensitivity which leads one to meditative awareness the fruit of an attitude of the mind, sensitivity of the heart, kept alert in daily life. In order to grow in it each one has to practice a discipline of meditation.
