Thirty years ago,
cycle rickshaws were a common sight on the streets. They
were hired to take children to school in the morning and to
bring them home in the evening. Such trips would always have
6 students in one ricksha.
As a school girl, I used to go to school in a cycle rickshaw.
I took a great fancy to this vehicle. Whenever I rode in it, I imagined
I was sitting in a magnificent chariot drawn by white horses.
The cycle rickshaw is just a 2-wheeled carriage attached
to a cycle. The rickshaw driver sits on the cycle and pedals it. The carriage
is attached to the cycle just behind the cycle seat. It has a covering
to protect passengers from sun and rain. There is a small footrest at the
side to help you get in and out of the carriage. Inside, 3 people can sit
comfortably. Most rickshaws also have a mini seat in front of the main cushioned
seat so that more peoples can sit.
