Pearl spot the most prominent fish in the Back waters of Kerala is made in different ways. Adding 'moilee'  gravy makes it yummy.

Ingredients

Quantity

Karimeen (pearl spot)

1 kg

Sliced onion

2 medium sized

Ginger

1 inch crushed

Garlic

2 pod crushed

Sliced green chilies

3 nos center cut

Tomatoes

1 big cut into 4quarters

Thick coconut milk

1 ˝ cup

Thin coconut milk

1 ˝ cup

Vinegar

1 tsp

Curry leaves

10 nos

For frying fish

Marination

Chili powder

1 tblsp

Turmeric powder

˝ tsp

Salt

to taste

Oil

for frying

1. Fry the marinated fish lightly in little oil and keep it aside
2. Sauté onions in the same oil and add ginger, garlic, curry leaves and tomato add the thin coconut milk after 5 minutes, keep stirring.
3. When the coconut milk boils add the fish piece by piece and boil it for 5 more minutes, care has to be taken to see that the fish doesn’t break.
4. When the fish has become soft add 11/2 cup of thick coconut milk and when it boils put of the flame add vinegar, without stirring much serve the dish hot.

Did you know ?

This is a coconut based dish, pretty much like a broth from Kerala. The fresh coconut milk and the spice flavours turn it in to a delicacy . A lot of effort and skill is required to perfect this dish as coconut milk can easily get curdled and addition of a small spoon of corn flour can avoid this.
