Malabari Gravy
 

( a common gravy in most of the Malabari dishes)

Ingredients

Tomatoes

Khuskhus, (poppy seeds)

10gms

Dry coconut

50gms

Cumin

1gm

Cloves

5nos

Cardamom

4nos

Black cardamom

Ginger

15gms

Garlic

15gms

Green chilies

4 nos

Turmeric

1 gm

Red chili powder

10 gms

Cinnamon

1 stick

Aniseed

1 gms

Curd

100 ml

Salt

to taste

Oil

50 mls

Water

Peel and slice onions (paper thin). Blanch and chop tomatoes and soak poppy seeds in water.

Slice dry coconut and roast along with cumin, aniseeds, black and green cardamom seeds.

Chop green chilies, ginger and garlic. 

Grind to a fine paste soaked poppy seeds, green ,chilies dry coconut and spices along with curds.

Grind ginger and garlic separately.

Heat oil, add sliced onions, ginger and garlic paste and fry till golden brown.

Add tomatoes and turmeric, red chili powder, cinnamon and cloves and fry well. When oil starts oozing out, add poppy seed paste and fry well for 2 to 3 minutes.
