(Steamed Rice 'n' Coconut cakes)
Another very popular
breakfast dish goes well with spicy non vegetarian dishes, another
favorite among the people of northern Kerala.

To make 'puttu' you will need.... |

Ingredients |

Par boiled Rice |
250 gr.
|

Grated
Coconut
|
50 gr.
|
|
Salt
|
1/3 tsp
|
|
Water
|
1/2 cup
|

1.Soak the washed rice for about 3 hours. Dry.

2.Grind coarsely in a GRINDER
-
3.Roast on slow fire till it becomes blond. Keep on stirring.

4.When ready to make, add 1/3 tsp salt to 1/2-cup water and mix

5.Keep on adding water to the mixture and mixing with hand.
Lumps shouldn't form.

6.Fill the rice cake stand or any pudding mould or pathe dish
can be used as a substitute. with coconut and rice in layers

7.Leave a little space at the top.

8.Heat water double boil or steam the mixture.

9.Puttu is ready when steam comes out of stand for 5 minutes.
Serve with
plantain, black tea, sugar or if prefer spicy try some hot 'kadala'
curry

For your info....
If the mixture becomes too lumpy or you added too much water,
add more rice powder. Also you can blend in a blender
after adding water.
Putttu known for its taste was initially had with
plantains (Bananas) and sugar. Kids enjoy it and another variation for
kids would be to have it with milk. Usually a good spicy and a tangy curry makes
a good combination for spice lovers.
