In Kerala, movies are more than simply "entertainment".
They are dreams, an escape to fantastic and alternative
realities - a necessity in dealing with the drudge of
everyday existence and routine. And films deliver
fantasy big time! While much of Kerala's cinema is
lacking in the area of Western "sophistication", this lack
is probably the biggest advantage they have over the
rest of the World.
Malayalam films often have deeply emotional themes usually
stressing strong family values. They are overly dramatic and
extremely colorful with racy song-and-dance sequences. But
above all....they are
simply fun to watch.
